Alfie’s story

Previously the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity, we re-launched as The Children’s Surgery Foundation in 2019 to reflect the national scope of our work today. The story below is from our days as the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.

“Alfie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia shortly before his second birthday. It was utterly unexpected as he had very few symptoms; I took him to the doctors in the morning thinking he may have a virus, and a few hours later at Chelsea, a blood test confirmed that Alfie had Leukaemia,” says Harriet, Alfie’s mum.

Alfie’s treatment at Chelsea Children’s Hospital took three years but he is now doing very well and is in remission. “He’s got lots more energy, he’s had a growth spurt, his hair’s grown back. Despite feeling really poorly when he was at Chelsea, Alfie has really happy memories of being here.
